Italy’s daily coronavirus cases have hit a new high record for the second day in a row, prompting the authorities to release a televised address for the public. On Sunday night, PM ‘Giuseppe Conte’ announced stricter measures to be placed to curb the rise in infections in recent days.
Italy’s daily coronavirus cases on Sunday were reported to be 11,705, while on Saturday the tally was 10,925. The COVID- related deaths were 69 on Sunday and 47 on Saturday. The country has the second-highest death toll in Europe i.e., 36,543.
Wearing a face-mask while giving the speech, the PM also advised that in order to avoid a “new lockdown”, these measures were necessary.
Italy’s Daily Coronavirus Fatalities were at a peak in March-April
Italy was the first worst-hit country in Europe in March and April when the coronavirus raced out of China (where it originated) and caused a massive outbreak in the country with Italy’s daily coronavirus fatalities reaching peak numbers of 900. The European country was forced to shut-down completely for about two months as businesses and other events came to a halt.
This new surge of infections is the next wave of coronavirus as the Italian Prime Minister has urged the public to ‘do their part’ while the government is doing theirs. He insisted on the basic safeguards to follow i.e., wear a mask, practice hand-hygiene regularly, and maintain social distancing. He also advised the people to keep a check on where they let the guards down, especially with family and friends, and asked them to exercise maximum caution.
According to the newly declared measures in Italy
- Mayors will be given full authority to implement curfews and close public areas after 21:00 hours.

Amidst the coronavirus surge in European countries and the U.S., which are seeing the next big wave of infections, the countries are implementing curbs and phased lockdowns to deal with the increasing numbers.
According to the data by W.H.O., there has been an accelerating rise in infections with 53 European countries reporting cases to jump from 6 million to 7 million in a span of ten days. WHO has also warned of the daily coronavirus fatalities rising to 5 times their April tally if stricter measures are not adopted immediately!
According to data based on the new coronavirus infections, mostly the Younger population has contracted the virus owing to non-compliance with distancing rules. They have further infected their parents and grandparents, thus bringing in the surge.
France has reported record new coronavirus cases with daily infections rising above 30,000 and has imposed a 21:00 to 6:00 curfew in nine major cities including the capital Paris.
In a severe move to curb the rise of infections, Belgium has ordered to shut down all bars and restaurants for the next four weeks, in addition to night curfew and ban on alcohol sale after 20:00.
Other countries like Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands are also imposing tighter restrictions to help deter the further spread of the coronavirus in the coming days.
