JA Happ Activated From DL

The New York Yankees have activated starting pitcher JA Happ from the disabled list to make his start against the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

The Yankees acquired Happ from the Toronto Blue Jays before the July 31 trade deadline in exchange for Brandon Drury and Billy McKinney.

Happ made his first and only start thus far with the Yankees, leading them to a series win over the Kansas City Royals on July 29.

He went on the disabled list with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease the next week, which forced him to miss his start against the Boston Red Sox last Saturday.

Prospect Chance Adams started in Happ’s place in Boston, pitching five innings and allowing three hits on three runs. He did pretty well, but will be sent back down to Triple-A now that Happ is back. We will see Chance again in September, I am sure.

I would have been in favor of letting Adams get one more start and going with a six man rotation one time through, but I think the roster crunch probably would have been a difficult maneuver, so I am cool with just sending him down. They can start Sonny Gray, anyway, if they decided to go a six man rotation.

Getting Happ back stabilizes the back of the rotation and gives them some semblance of consistency back there. Happ was an all-star this year, and has a 4.05 ERA in 120.0 total innings this year.
