Japan protests Russia’s declaring Sept 3 as day of victory over ‘militaristic’ Jap...

Japan has filed a complaint against Russia for its decision to declare Sept. 3 as a day of triumph over “militaristic Japan,” which it claims will fuel mutual hostility, according to the top government spokesperson on Monday. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno stated at a press conference on Monday that “The implementation of this legislation may not only incite anti-Japanese feelings among the Russian people but also anti-Russian sentiments among the Japanese people,” calling Moscow’s action “extremely unfortunate.” According to Japanese media reports, Russia renamed the commemoration day of Sept. 3, the day after Japan’s surrender in World War Two, as the Day of Victory over Militaristic Japan last week.
