Joe Biden, the freshly minted Democratic Presidential candidate, said on the fourth and last night of the Democratic virtual convention, that Donald Trump had cloaked the United States in the age of darkness for much too long.

He added that his presidential rival had unleashed too much anger, fear, and division within the country. Biden’s acceptance speech was impassioned with the capstone of a political career spanning over five decades.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden maintains a clear lead in opinion polls ahead of the November 3 Presidential elections. However, Trump still has nearly 75 days to narrow the gap. While addressing the convention from Delaware, Biden vowed to be an ally of light, not the darkness.

He urged the voters to come out and oust Trump to lead the country out of darkness and division. Biden said, “character is on the ballot” this November. The former US vice-president added that this election would determine the future of the US for a long time.

He vowed to address the severe economic challenges due to the pandemic outbreak. Referring to the coronavirus, Biden said that Trump has failed in his most basic duty as a president to protect the citizens of the country.

Joe Biden’s acceptance speech marked the end of the four days largely virtual event. However, there were no cheering thongs, balloon drops, and any other fanfare typical American party conferences, primarily due to the pandemic outbreak.

Instead, the organizers of the event opted for a virtual set piece of mostly pre-recorded speeches. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the actress and a staunch critic of Trump, hosted the climax of the four-day event. Throughout the night, Democrats who had earlier challenged Biden for the nomination praised his leadership in recorded messages.

Some of those former rivals include Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, Pete Buttigieg, Beto O’Rourke, and Corry Booker, who could be in line for jobs under the Biden administration.

Over the last three nights of the conventions, Democratic politicians have aimed to establish Trump as incompetent, selfish, and dangerous for the democratic values of the US political system. Further imploring voters to vote him out of the office, a tone that Biden also echoed in his speech on Thursday.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, Senator from California Kamala Harris accepted the nomination and became the first woman of color to be selected as a presidential candidate by a major political party in the US.

Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, the incumbent President Donald Trump labeled his rival Biden as “slow joe,” visiting Scranton’s birthplace in the key state of Pennsylvania. He accused Biden of destroying millions of American jobs through his global trade deals, clean energy plans, and the Paris climate.

On Thursday, Trump’s re-election campaign also issued a statement, describing Joe Biden as a pawn of the radical left. Moreover, Republican President is expected to accept his formal nomination as the presidential candidate from White House during the convention, which has been largely scaled down due to the surge in new coronavirus infections across the country.
