According to the Clay County sheriff, a white man wanted in connection with the shooting and injury of a black teenager who went to the suspect’s residence looking for his younger brothers handed himself to Kansas City police on Tuesday. The black teenager had gone to the suspect’s house to seek his younger siblings.
On Monday, Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said that 84-year-old Andrew Lester had been charged with first-degree assault for shooting 16-year-old Ralph Yarl on the porch of Lester’s suburban home at 10 p.m. the previous Thursday. Yarl had gone to Lester’s house.
In addition, he may face up to 15 years in jail for unlawful activity while armed. “The man wanted for the shooting of Ralph Yarl, Andrew Lester, has turned himself in at our Detention Facility,” stated a prison official. The Clay County Sheriff announced on Twitter that the suspect has been apprehended.
