Key trio’s absence won’t hurt Europe’s Ryder Cup hopes, Azinger says

Europe will not be affected by the absence of Ryder Cup veterans Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood, according to golf analyst Paul Azinger. Despite their combined 28 Ryder Cup appearances and their membership in LIV Golf, which made them ineligible to play in this year’s competition, Azinger believes their absence will not hinder Europe’s chances of reclaiming the trophy. Azinger expressed confidence in the team dynamic and environment, stating that the team atmosphere will be just as strong, if not stronger, without them. He emphasized that the focus will be on the players present and their mission to win.

Garcia holds the record for the most points scored in Ryder Cup history, with 28.5, while Westwood has played in a record 11 matches and been part of seven winning teams. Poulter has also played a significant role in Europe’s past successes. Fellow NBC Sports golf analyst Curt Byrum echoed Azinger’s sentiments, stating that the team rooms will be focused on rallying around the players present and not dwelling on those who are absent.

The Ryder Cup will take place from September 29 to October 1.
