The shocking death of basketball great, Kobe Bryant, has shocked the world. The 41 years old considered as the greatest Los Angeles Laker died in a helicopter crash, which happened at about 10 am this morning. The helicopter was heading to Calabasas, which is approximately 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Moreover, His death, which was confirmed by FOX sports, also claimed the lives of 4 other passengers present on the helicopter.

According to reports, the crash happened in a remote field close to Las Virgenes. We are yet to know the cause of the crash. The Los Angeles County Sheriff also confirmed the death of all five people on board the helicopter. Besides, firefighters worked to put out the flames that spread out through the dry bush present at the site of the crash.

Who is Kobe Bryant

Born on the 23rd of August 1978 to a former NBA player Joe Bryant. His family had to move to Italy, where His father continued playing professional basketball. More so, due to his stay in Italy, he became fluent in Italian, and he also learned to play basketball there.

Growing up, Bryant’s favorite team was the Lakers. When his father stopped playing basketball in 1991, they moved back to the United States.

Likewise, in his high school days, he enjoyed an outstanding career where he played for the Lower Merion High School located in Philadelphia. Furthermore, he went on to become the all-time lead scorer of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s with 2,883 points overtaking Lionel Simmons and Wilt Chamberlain.

In the university, he was the first freshman to start for the Lower Merion’s team in decades. He had an average of 31.1 points, 5.2 assists and 10.4 rebounds in his junior year.

After the departure of Shaquille O’Neal, he became the Laker’s most valuable player. He was the leader of the scoring charts for two seasons in a row (2005-2006 and 2006-2007).

In 2006 he became the second-highest scorer in a single game with 81 points, behind Wild Chamberlain record of 100 points. In 2008 he won the Most valuable player award (MVP). His next championships with the Lakers came in 2009 and 2010, where he also received the MVP awards for both finals. His dominance as one of the most valuable players in the NBA continued until 2013, where he suffered several injuries. These lead to a decline in his physicality, which lead to him to retire after the season in 2016.

Kobe Bryant is the youngest player to reach the 30,000-point mark at the age of 34 years and 104 days.
His death today, the 26th of January 2020, is a great sadness to the NBA and the world. He is, no doubt, a legend and a great loss to the NBA.

Ginna follows in the footsteps of her father with her love for basketball. This evident in her also being a lover and player of the sport. There’s a general belief that she’s the heir to Bryant’s basketball legacy. Her father often calls her Gigi. Her passion for the game is evident in her dream to play in the WNBA.

The NBA legend, Kobe Bryant, is also the father of Natalia, Capri, and Bianka with his wife, Vanessa.

He is one of the few players to join the NBA straight out of high school. And he went on to dominate the game for a long time. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his 20 years’ career. Besides, he won numerous individual awards as well as breaking several records. Also, he has 5 NBA championships to his name. He held the record of the third-highest scorer in NBA until LeBron James overtook him.

Other victims of the crash

Officials already identified some bodies at the scene of the crash. Among them is John Altobelli, who is the coach of Orange Coast College basketball coach; his daughter, Alyssa, who is also Ginna’s basketball teammate and his wife, Keri Altobelli.

The brother of John Altobelli, Tony Altobelli, confirmed their presence on the helicopter.

According to reports, Alyssa and Gianna played basketball together at the Mamba Academy, where they schooled together.

The 56 years coach, John Altobelli, is also the father of a son and daughter. He is a loving coach and friend, who was a mentor to his students and everyone he coached.

According to the athletic director of Orange Coast College Jason Kehler, The Pirates, which Altobelli is the coach, would decide if they want to play on Tuesday.

Altobelli, more commonly called “coach Alto,” was into his 28th season coaching the baseball team of Orange Coast College. He won the national coach of the year by The American Baseball Coaches Association. This is in recognition of his achievement leading the Pirates to a state championship.

Another victim of the crash has been identified as Christina Mauser, who was an assistant coach of the girls’ basketball team at K-8 private school in Orange county.

Her husband confirmed the death. He was quoted saying, “We lost our beautiful wife and mom today in a helicopter crash. Please respect our privacy thank you for all the well wishes they mean so much.”

The presence of Srah Chester and her daughter, Payton, was part of the victims of the crash. A Facebook post by the principal of Harbor View Elementary School, Todd Schmidt confirmed it. Payton was once a student of the elementary school.
