LA 2024, the group behind organizing the 2024 Olympic bid for Los Angeles are reportedly looking towards using eSports to bring the Olympic Games to the U.S. In a press release, they recognized the League of Legends World Championships at the Staples Center, which inspired their announcement.
Chairman Casey Wasserman stated:
“We view eSports’ immense global popularity and continued advances in digital technologies as tremendous tools for reconnecting millennials with the Olympic movement.”

He also stated that the technology behind eSports as well as the culture of Los Angeles could be used by them for the 2024 Olympic Games. Recent eSports tournaments have used new technology like VR and AR to better present and market the tournaments.
“Harnessing the power of new technologies like virtual and augmented reality to promote healthy lifestyles will be a key objective as we seek to create a new Games for a new era in 2024,” said Wasserman.
Perhaps if they successfully use eSports and their technology to bring Olympic Games to LA, maybe eSports will come to the Olympic Games.
