The 2013 PlayStation exclusive from developer Naughty Dog known as The Last of Us launched to rave reviews, with an impressive 95% score on review aggregator site Metacritic. The game featured a post-apocalyptic setting in which an outbreak of an infection known as the Cordyceps virus ravages humanity, leading to a lawless and dangerous new world. The story follows two now-beloved characters, Joel and Ellie, as they trek across the United States, wrapped up in events that they want no part of. In the game, September 26th is the day that the virus reached a critical point, and is known as Outbreak Day. That day is today, so Naughty Dog is celebrating for the third time with some sales, and an awesome new limited edition poster.
The sale is running on the PlayStation Store, where gamers can buy the remastered version of the PlayStation 3 original for a solid discount. The discounts haven’t gone up just yet, but the store typically updates on Tuesdays, so that’s probably why.
In addition to the sale, developer Naughty Dog got together with Mondo to create a brand new limited edition poster inspired by The Last of Us for Outbreak Day. Creative Director and writer for Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann tweeted early this morning to spread the word:
Happy Outbreak Day! Here's a super limited poster from @MondoNews by the talented @tragicsunshine. https://t.co/S2d51Nk0SB #OutbreakDay2016 pic.twitter.com/ti0c9ZVSgM

The poster mixes the frightening with the beautiful, as the game does so often with its imagery of the Cordyceps virus, by contrasting the knife and the bite wound on the forearm (of the character Ellie, who is bitten in the game) with the sprouting plants and butterflies, which evoke memories of the game’s foliage-covered cities, and hauntingly beautiful sights of the post-apocalypse.
Sadly, the poster was released with limited supplies, and almost immediately sold out. If you want to get your hands on one, you can keep an eye on Mondo’s store page and their inventory information.
Since the release of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog developed acclaimed action adventure sequel Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and are now moving on to unknown projects. A sequel for The Last of Us has been rumored, but not confirmed.
