Parents’ of two Americans killed in Benghazi in 2012 are filing a lawsuit against Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The claims in the lawsuit, which was filed on the parents’ behalf by the conservative activist group Freedom Watch, include wrongful death and defamation.
In 2012, four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed which Islamic militants raided a US diplomatic compound. Mrs. Clinton was Secretary of State at the time of the attack. The lawsuit asserts that Clinton’s use of a private email server gave away the locations of the four slain Americans.
Among them were Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods, whose parents’, Patricia Smith and Charles Woods, decided to litigate the presidential nominee. Patricia Smith spoke at the Republican National Convention, saying: “I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son.”
Clinton was cleared of criminal action by a committee of House Republicans earlier this year, although the issue has been repeatedly brought up during her campaign for President.
James Comey, the current FBI director, suggested last month that it was “possible that hostile actors gained access” to Clinton’s emails, but added that there was no provable evidence that any hacking had taken place.
Blame pointed toward Mrs. Clinton has not been uniform. The sister of the late ambassador Stevens told The New Yorker that “The Benghazi Mission was understaffed. We know that now. But, again, Chris knew that. It is not something they did to him. It is something he took on himself.”
While Patricia Smith and Charles Woods have also alleged that Clinton made “false and defamatory statements negligently, recklessly and purposefully and/or intentionally with malice,” Chris Stevens has spoken out saying that Smith and Wood’s public statements being used politically is “inappropriate.”
Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill officially responded to the suit, saying: “While no one can imagine the pain of the families of the brave Americans we lost at Benghazi, there have been nine different investigations into this attack and none found any evidence whatsoever of any wrongdoing on the part of Hillary Clinton.”
