Ledecky qualifies for sixth world championships with blazing 800m freestyle

American Katie Ledecky has secured her spot in the world championships for the sixth time after an impressive performance in the 800m freestyle event. She swam the third-fastest time in history, clocking in at 8:07.07, and finished over 13 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Jillian Cox. This is Ledecky’s fastest time in the event since 2016.

With her qualification, Ledecky, a seven-times Olympic champion, will now focus on adding to her collection of world championship medals at the upcoming World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, starting on July 23. Currently, Ledecky has 19 gold medals, which is the second-highest number in history, only behind her compatriot Michael Phelps, who has 26.

Ledecky’s remarkable performance not only sets her up for success in the world championships but also puts her in a strong position for the 2024 Paris Games, which are just over a year away.
