Lewinsky Speaks Out Against Cyber-Bullying

Former President Bill Clinton, will not only go down in history as the president who created nearly 6 million jobs or for successfully passing the Crime Bill. Clinton will go down in history  also as Liar-in-Chief, the President who had an affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Lewinsky, 41, then a 22-year old intern told a friend about her two-year affair with the president, news of the relationship hit the world like a bombshell, shattering both careers and appointing Lewinsky the first to have their reputation shattered on the Internet.

In an interview with Forbes, Lewinsky admitted,

“Sixteen years ago, fresh out of college, a 22-year-old intern in the White House — and more than averagely romantic – I fell in love with my boss in a 22-year-old sort of a way. It happens. But my boss was the President of the United States. That probably happens less often. Now, I deeply regret it for many reasons. Not the least of which is that people we hurt. And that’s never okay.”

Speaking out against online bullying, Lewinsky makes a speech in attempts to tone down some of the unanswered questions and fights back against the abuse that social media has initiated.

“Thanks to the Internet and a website that at the time, was scarcely known outside of Washington DC but a website most of us know today called the Drudge report. Within 24 hours I became a public figure, not just in the United States but also around the entire globe. As far as major news stories were concerned, this was the very first time that the traditional media was usurped by the Internet.”

She continues, “It happens all the time on the internet. Even as I’m talking to you now, this is happening to someone online. And depending on what you guys are tweeting, this may be happening to me later. The experience of shame and humiliation online is different than offline. There is no way to wrap your mind around where the humiliation ends — there are no borders.”

Lewinsky speaks in order to end the trends, end the cruel words and fight against cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying opens new doors for bully’s media and allows personal information to be spread throughout the world in a matter of seconds. There is no sympathy to the frenzy, no compassion or care for how it would affect the person its about. It just goes out and on the Internet it can have eternal life. She speaks to children of this generation to end the gossip and the rumors. It’s not worth the destruction of someone’s life or reputation.
