An affluent Malaysian couple got married on Sunday, December 20, in a grandeur affair that included family and friends. Although the pandemic situation has led to a ban on all social gatherings and also put restrictions on the number of people in weddings, this Malaysian couple managed to have a grand wedding of their dreams with 10,000 guests joining in on their special day. All this while also maintaining the social distancing protocols in a very unique way.

The groom ‘Tengku Muhammed Hafiz’, who is the son of an influential politician of the country and former cabinet minister, ‘Tengku Adnan’ got married on Sunday to the bride ‘Oceane Alagia’ and both appeared to receive their guests outside a grand government building in Putrajaya, which is located south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The newly-weds received wishes from thousands who came to the event however, the guests wished the couple from within their cars as they drove along the path witnessing the newly-weds. The Malaysian couple was thrilled to receive the wishes in the form of a socially-distant happy wave from the guests seated in their cars, while they drove one after the other in the most unique kind of wedding attendance. The windows remained rolled up as the cars drove through the slow-moving traffic queue. Groom’s father ‘Tengku Adnan’ expressed much delight upon the turn-out of guests as he shared on Facebook, “I am informed that there are more than 10,000 cars here since this morning.” It was also the politician’s birthday on Sunday.
More than 10,000 cars drove along the government building in Malaysia wishing the Malaysian couple, and the guests were further treated with dinner at the wedding. However, adhering to the social distancing norms, the guests were required to pick up their pre-packed food in the drive-through as they collect it through their car windows and further proceed out of the venue.
The pandemic situation has forced people to restrict social gatherings and festivals, however, occasions like these only prove how people around the world can still find innovative ways to keep up their spirits and make things work in their favor.

Incidentally, after Sunday’s majestic wedding, the groom’s politician father was convicted in a corruption case having been sentenced to 12 months in prison and a penalty of RM2 million. He was found guilty in a $500,000 (£370,000) graft charge.
Meanwhile, Malaysia is battling its odds against the coronavirus with the country having 92,000 coronavirus cases and 430 fatalities.
