Rod Hernandez and Tanya Nikitina were just a few weeks away from tying the knot, that is until the bride-to-be’s ex-mother in law had something to say about it.
Tanya was talking to Rod on the phone while she was sitting in the car located just outside of the pre-school, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she works. That is Tanya’s former mother in law, who showed up and shot her in cold blood.
Mary Nance Hanson, shot Tanya because she felt that her son, Dale Jankowski, should have custody rights to his and Tanya’s two children, who he only had the children on the weekends. Dale and his mother, Nancy were living together in Nancy’s home. Rod had expressed that there was tension amongst the two groups of people, and Nancy even started sending threatening text messages to Tanya shortly before the incident.
Rod was unsure of what happened, but jumped into a state of shock and panic, “I could still hear her engine revving and the radio playing. I thought she’d had an accident. The school was only a short drive away, so I jumped in my car. I stayed on the phone the whole way there, screaming her name trying to wake her up,” exclaimed Hernandez
Rod could not believe the scene when he showed up, when he found his soon bride to be, shot down by Mary. “I couldn’t get my head around it. Why on earth would Mary want to kill Tanya? She’d done nothing wrong. Now the children are left without a mother and I’ve lost my beloved fiancée,” states Hernandez as he grips the situation, where his life will now be much different than he thought it was going to be.
Mary was arrested; it appears that she had no regrets for killing Tanya. She had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
