Hayley Atwell is back as special agent Peggy Carter, on Marvel’s new television show entitled “Agent Carter.”
With the popularity and success that Marvel’s “Agents of Shield” has produced, Marvel has decided to step up their television programming with yet another spin off series based around the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Agent Carter, played by Atwell, first made her appearance in Marvel Universe as Steve Rogers, a.k.a, Captain America’s, love interest. In “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Her appearance in the film gained enough attention and Atwell played the role so well that they decided to give the character her own series.
Since “Captain America: the First Avenger” premiered, Atwell had several roles in other films and projects, like ‘The Sweeney” and “Jimi: All is By My Side, ” but none of her roles stood out like her portrayal of the confident and independent Agent Carter.
The show debuted Tuesday January 6, and fans were rejoicing about the first episode. As a huge comic book fan myself, I was surprised that they decided to give this particular character her own series, but between the amazing visual aesthetics that capture a noir atmosphere that is set in the 1940s won me over. The shows supporting cast, comprised of Chad Michael Murray, James D’Arcy, and Enver Gjokaj, complemented each other quite marvelously, no pun intended.
Overall the show is a good piece for tracing the Marvel cinematic history, the show is set to be a limited series, and has more than a few references to Captain America, and many people will be excited to see what has resulted from Captain America and his influence over the world, being the first superhero in the world.
