Massachusetts Teen Convinces Her Friend to Take His Life

A teen is being charged with involuntary manslaughter after she encouraged her friend to take his own life.

Michelle Carter, 18, has been arrested and is being charged for the death of Conrad Roy, 18, after she encouraged Roy to “get back” a car that was filling up with carbon monoxide.

MyFoxBoston reported that Roy parked his car at a K-Mart located in Fairhaven, Massachusetts; a town located just outside of New Bedford. He took his life with the help of a gas generator that filled his car up with carbon monoxide.

Roy had his doubts regarding his suicide, and that is when he texted his “friend” who then convinced him to follow through with his plans.

The station reported that Carter took to social media sites following Roy’s death saying how she missed her friend. Carter would then set up a fundraiser in his name, which she called “Homers for Conrad” a group that was set up to educate people about the potential of suicide.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County DA, told MyFoxBoston that, “Instead of attempting to assist him or notify school officials, a counselor, a family member, anyone, Miss Carter is alleged to have strongly influenced his decision to take his own life, encouraged him to commit suicide on multiple occasions and guided him through the process, including the engage of activities that ultimately led to his death.”

Carter is currently out on bail, which was posted at 2,500 dollars; she is awaiting her court date in April, and if she is convicted could face up to 20 years in prison.

Carter has tried to justify her actions by stating, “I knew he would do it all over again the next day, and I couldn’t have him live the way he was living anymore. I couldn’t do it. I wouldn’t let him.”
