Gordon Ramsey and Christina Tosi still needed to hand out the remaining aprons and that’s exactly what they did, in the kind of dramatic, stoves blazing fashion I have come to expect from the program. The first challenge was over a taco, which included a contestant using a waffle as a side-dish, unfortunately it didn’t win her the apron. The next clash was over a hamburger, a humble food that needs to be elevated which a contestant named Alejandro did with a rendition that included an interesting side of yuca fries. One of the best moments was that he and his competitor brought there mothers into the kitchen to see who receive the coveted apron.
Much like the first episode there was a battle of four although this time the battlefield was shrimp and grits instead of all the contestants being fire fighters. There was then a montage of multiple failed contestants and then a battle between the last two potential contestants both from Las Vegas over surf and turf.
After that apron was won I was disappointed because unlike in previous seasons there was no last minute giving out of aprons to a couple of the challengers who lost in their individual challenges in one last gasp challenge that captures the heart-thumping style of the show that I have grown so fond of over the past three seasons. They did in closing excite me with the prospect of Wolfgang Puck judging in the next episode though so all was not lost.
