Mbappe “honoured” to tour father’s native Cameroon

Paris St Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is currently visiting Cameroon, his father’s native country, for the first time. This visit comes at a time when there are uncertainties surrounding his future at the French club. Upon his arrival in the capital city of Yaounde, excited fans gathered at the airport to welcome the 24-year-old star. Mbappe expressed his gratitude for being in the country of his origin and being able to spend time with his family and interact with the people who have shown him love.

During his visit, Mbappe had a busy schedule filled with sports activities. He participated in a basketball match against former NBA player Joakim Noah and later played a soccer game against Cameroon’s second-division team Vent d’Etoudi FC. On the following day, he traveled to Douala, the economic capital, and visited his father’s home village. Additionally, Mbappe made visits to schools funded by his charity, “Inspired by KM,” including a school that specializes in teaching children with impaired hearing. He expressed his commitment to supporting youth projects in Cameroon and working towards a bright future for the country.

Mbappe’s background includes an Algerian mother who was a handball player, but he was born and raised in the northeastern suburbs of Paris. Speculation about his future at PSG arose when he informed the club that he would not be extending his contract for an additional year when it expires next year. PSG signed Mbappe from AS Monaco in 2017 for a reported fee of around 180 million euros, making him the second-most expensive signing in the world after Neymar. If Mbappe completes his contract, PSG faces the risk of losing him for free at the end of the 2023-24 season. However, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ruled out this possibility.

During his time in Yaounde, Mbappe avoided discussing his contract situation and emphasized that his focus is on enjoying his holiday and spending time with the people of Cameroon. The article concludes with the standard reporting information.
