Medvedev overcomes Mannarino test

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev secured his spot in the third round at Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-3 7-6(5) victory over Adrian Mannarino of France. The match had been suspended due to poor lighting the previous day, but Medvedev maintained his dominance to claim the win.

On Thursday evening, Medvedev was on the verge of victory before Mannarino launched a late comeback, leveling the third set at 4-4 and forcing the match to continue into a second day.

Despite Mannarino’s efforts, Medvedev remained in control, matching his opponent’s pace. Medvedev, who has never reached the quarter-finals at the All England Club, displayed his determination to advance further in the tournament.

The match reached its conclusion when Mannarino sent a forehand long during the tiebreak, securing Medvedev’s victory. In the next round, Medvedev will face either American Marcos Giron or Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

Reflecting on the match, Medvedev revealed that he may have discovered a new lucky ritual for future two-day matches. He recalled a previous experience against Hubert Hurkacz where he lost after preparing as if the match had already finished. This time, he changed his approach, refraining from washing his hair until after the match, and it seemed to bring him luck.

“I did take a shower,” Medvedev added, clarifying that he did maintain basic hygiene during the two-day match.

In conclusion, Daniil Medvedev’s victory over Adrian Mannarino secured his place in the third round at Wimbledon. Despite the match being suspended due to bad light, Medvedev maintained his dominance and will now face either Marcos Giron or Marton Fucsovics. Medvedev also shared his newfound lucky ritual for two-day matches, which involves refraining from washing his hair until after the match.
