Met Gala is putting a Ban on Social Media

At this year’s Met Gala there will be no photography from phones and no social media permitted during the event. So all those addicted to social media will have twitchy thumbs wanting to tweet or post something on Instagram. There will be no selfies from Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala. How will they survive without any social media for an entire evening?

According to Page Six all the guest received notices saying that “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.” Some have speculated that the cause for the ban was that Vogue and Relativity Studios is filming a documentary called “China: Through the Looking Glass,” or that Vogue wanted more control of the photos.

However, it is said that ban is “solely to do with guests’ security and enjoyment of the event.” Some viral videos have come out from the Met Gala, such as the security footage of Solange Knowles and Jay-Z in the elevator. Then last year Cynthia Rowley brought in a GoPro to document the night’s festivities. So the ban is just for the celebrities to have one night of privacy in a very public world, and for the guests, a very open lifestyle. One night of privacy might be nice.
