Modi Faces Defeat in Delhi State Election According to Initial Results

New Delhi’s state election is expected to reflect the status quo. AAP seems to keep BJP away from Delhi government, with Congress also expected to repeat its performance: not a single seat.

Delhi state election

According to the unofficial results, Indian PM Narendra Modi’s BJP faces defeat at the hand of the Aam Admi Party in Delhi state election.

Polling for the national capital’s government began in the early hours of Friday, whose final results will be declared Tuesday. However, according to the initial poll results conducted by the media, it reflects the huge majority of the Aam Admi Party (AAP). Also, the polls suggest the Congress will be uprooted with no seat, a repeat performance of the 2015 election in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP had also garnered tremendous support in the previous state elections that crowned him as the chief minister. Of the 70 seat legislature, AAP had grabbed 67, leaving only three for Narendra Modi’s BJP.

According to the various polls conducted by different organizations, AAP is expected to gain 52 of the 70 seats in Delhi state election 2020.

Arvind Kejriwal had launched an aggressive electoral campaign, showcasing their 5-year performance as the justification or a claim to seek another term. Delhi CM even published the report card of his government’s work.

Manish Sisodia, who is the Deputy Chief Minister of New Delhi, has claimed in his tweet to have gained a majority victory.

On the other hand, BJP’s interior minister Amit Shah, who led a campaign for Delhi’s election, has called an emergency meeting on Saturday.

The capital Delhi saw the turn up of a large number of people, who used their vote amid the critical political conditions in the country. BJP’s electoral campaign was led by its trademark style based on religion and nationalist slogans, while AAP stressed the more immediate social issues of daily life.

One day before the voting, the BJP delivered a message to the Delhiites to vote for BJP if they want to end the sit-in taking place in Shaheen Bagh. The protestors, sitting-in Shaheen Bagh, have been demanding the repeal of the controversial Citizen Amendment Act that they consider mars the secular image of India.

Women protestors, a majority of them Muslim, have been staging a sit-in in Shaheen Bagh for the last two months.
