Morning After Regrets: The Horrible Hangover Cure

The worst thing about drinking is enduring the dreaded head pounding, stomach-twisting hangover that inevitably ensues the following morning. Sometimes no matter how much water you drink, or how many bagels you (attempt) to eat your hangover just will not go away. So here’s a list of five things you should do avoid that awful hangover.

1) Eat dinner

Because drinking is so fattening, many people (girls especially) will skip meals to balance out that alcohol intake. However, not eating dinner is almost like asking for a hangover. Fill up your stomach before you start drinking, and if you’re worried about calories have something healthy like chicken, and vegetables. Eating something is always better than eating nothing.

2) Drink water

The reason hangovers are so nauseating is because alcohol dehydrates you; therefore it’s extremely important to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Try and consume a lot of water throughout the day, before you begin drinking. Once you get home that night, drink as much water as you can, and maybe even whip up a low fat food that will settle your stomach before going to bed. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, and aren’t terrible to eat at night.

3) Sleep in

The ensuing hangover will most likely come sometime during the early morning, and the smartest thing you can do is just sleep through it. If you wake up feeling sick, chug some water and try to go back to sleep. When you wake up, chances are you’ll be feeling loads better.

4) Eat breakfast

The last thing you want to think about is food when you wake up with a head-pounding headache and a convulsing stomach, but the one thing that will help most is food and water. Alcohol thrives on empty stomachs, so while downing a bagel may sound like the most disgusting thing in the world, it’s important to eat something (carbs work best). 30 minutes later you’ll feel so much better.

5) Stick to one type of alcohol

Many people get in trouble when they drink different kinds of alcohol. Mixing wine, beer and clear liquor can be agonizing come the next morning. So if you start out with beer, drink beer for the rest of the night, unless a cute guy offers to buy you something else (the hangover will be worth it).
