A pastor in Mozambique died after attempting to fast for forty days, as Christ did according to the Bible.

Francisco Barajah, the founder of the Santa Trindade Evangelical Church, passed away at a Beira hospital. After being rushed there in a critical state.

After not eating or drinking for 25 days, he had dropped so much weight that he was unable to stand. He was 39 years of age.

He was rushed to the hospital at the insistence of his family and fans.

Doctors informed Mr. Barajah that he suffered from acute anemia and failing digestive organs.

Serums and liquid foods were tried to make him drink more water, but it was too late. He passed away Wednesday.

The pastor also taught French in Messica, which is located in the central region of Manica and close to the Zimbabwean border.

According to members of the Santa Trindade Church, it was typical for the pastor and his congregation to fast, but rarely for so long.

Marques Manuel Barajah, his brother, stated that the pastor had fasted, but he disagreed with the doctor’s assessment of the cause of death. The truth is that my brother had low blood pressure, he stated.

It is not the first time that someone has attempted to replicate in a perilous manner Christ’s 40-day fast in the desert, as described in the Gospel of Matthew.

In 2015, local media reported that a Zimbabwean man died after thirty days. A British coroner determined in 2006 that a woman in London died while undergoing a similar fast.
