Nasal spray recalled

Nasal nightmare

CVS Health’s 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist is one product that was removed from shelfs on Wednesday after the FDA found that the nasal spray contained a microbiological contaminant.

FDA officials state that the contaminant is called Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a clear liquid that can lead to infection in the colon. In fact, it can be lethal to people who have cystic fibrosis or other similar diseases.

The FDA also notes that no one has been harmed by this product to the best of our knowledge, but the risk is still imminent, which led to the urgency of the recall. The recall covers almost 17,000 units of the nasal spray – consumers can spot recalled units by finding an expiration date of 09/19 on the box.

CVS’s stock slid two percent after the news, but it has recovered since then. Although this is a big deal and should be treated seriously, it has not harmed anyone yet and was dealt with efficiently. Because of this, CVS ‘s company image will likely not face any permanent damage.

Nevertheless, it’s important that the FDA finds these harmful aspects of products before they are shelved. If these details go unnoticed, someone may actually be harmed in the future.
