Nationals-Cards game suspended; DH set for Saturday

The Washington Nationals’ series opener in St. Louis will be extended to two days. The game was suspended due to rain and will now be played as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday. The suspended game will resume at 1:15 p.m. CDT, followed by the originally scheduled Saturday game at 6:15 p.m. CDT.

When the first game resumes, the Cardinals will be leading 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Paul Goldschmidt will be at bat with a full count, and there will be a runner on first base.

The lone run in the game came from a Lars Nootbaar home run off Nationals starter Trevor Williams in the first inning. This was Nootbaar’s sixth home run of the season. So far, Williams has only allowed that one hit and no walks, while striking out five batters in 2 2/3 innings.

On the Cardinals’ side, starting pitcher Miles Mikolas has thrown three perfect innings and has struck out two batters.
