The new Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema LS10000 may make eyebrows rise on home theater owners and projector fans alike. The kick of being the first to try a new twist of technology for a brand may pull in buyers as well; the LS10000 is the first laser projector made by Epson.
According to Epson, what they call reflective laser technology enables them to get an absolute black contrast ration on full-black screens without the use of an iris, although they admitted that low levels of light in a scene will lighten black levels. It’s important to note that the LS10000 is not a true 4K. It accepts a 4K input and runs a 1080 3LCD that implements pixel-shift technology to simulate 4K. Using a laser instead of a lamp elevates its life up to 30,000, comparable to today’s televisions. No warm-up period is required after turning it on. Light output is charted at 1500 lumens.
The LS10000 has a 2.1x zoom and power focus. Lens position memory can store up to 10 settings for 16:9 or 4:3 projection areas, in addition to a 2:35:1 wide cinema ratio. The comparable LS9600e is also on its way that offers wireless HD and five HDMI ports, though it won’t have the 4K pixel-shift ability. According, to Epson, the LS10000 will be available in the fall for less than $8,000.
