New York Fashion Week can kiss The Lincoln Center goodbye, the venue that has been its home since 2010. Womens Wear Daily reported that the event will be moving to two new locations, one in Midtown and one in Soho.

This morning IMG announced the new locations are:  Skylight at Moynihan Station, the old post office on Eighth Avenue between 32nd and 33rd Streets and Skylight Clarkson Square  (550 Washington St.)  The organization strategically chose these venues after speaking with its partners, designers, journalist, and show producers. There is no knowing currently how long these two locations would remain the homes of the NYFW.

According to Fashionista.com this past December The Supreme Court of the State of New York County ruled that NYFW could no longer take place at the Lincoln Center because it obstructs its use as a public park.

Chief Content Officer of IMG Mark Shapiro stated

“As IMG prepares to evolve New York Fashion Week, we are focused on creating the best possible experiences that extend beyond a physical location and moment in time[.] We’re looking forward to reintroducing the industry to a showcase of creative talent, style and innovation that made the New York runways famous. Part of this showcase involves staying close to inspirational hubs for fashion, art and music, and we’ve found great new homes for that in Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Sq.”

Even Mayor Bill De Blasio is behind the move and NYFW in general, the proof is in his quote from the press release —

“From the hundreds of thousands of jobs it creates to the billions of dollars of economic impact generated each year, the fashion industry contributes so much to New York City, and I’m thrilled that New York Fashion Week will bring so much excitement and energy to its new homes at Skylight Clarkson Sq and Skylight at Moynihan Station[.]”

The new venues offer multiple spaces that can accommodate anywhere from 250 to 1000 guest.

It doesn’t seem like NYFW is sad to leave its home of 5 years because it’s moving on to bigger and better things. With two official locations and other off-site shows NYFW is bound to take over the city.

Shows for the Spring/Summer 2016 collections will take place from September 10-17, 2015.
