Italian police have reported that a 58-year-old Newcastle United fan was stabbed in Milan by a group of hooded attackers on the eve of the team’s Champions League game against AC Milan. The supporter, a British national, sustained stab wounds to the arm and back in the Navigli district of the city. Although the back wound was the most serious, the victim is expected to be released from the hospital soon. The attack occurred around midnight when the victim and a friend were approached by a group of seven or eight individuals wearing hoods. Newcastle expressed deep concern over the incident and stated that they are working with local authorities to understand the circumstances. They extended their thoughts to the supporter and their family, wishing for a full and speedy recovery. Milan declined to comment on the matter. Later on Tuesday, Newcastle will face Milan in Group F at San Siro, marking their return to Europe’s top club competition after a 20-year absence.
