Move aside, cupcake ATM. The nation’s first pizza ATM is debuting at Xavier University in Ohio this week.
The $55,000 machine holds 70 pizzas at a time and can serve up a hot pie in about three minutes, according to Cleveland.com.
“We were looking for a way to solve this problem of having a late-night pizza option on campus,” Assistant Vice President of Xavier University Jude Kiah told Cincinatti.com. “And this meets our students where they’re at, in their residence hall. And we like the idea of being first and innovative and trying something new, there’s one Pizza ATM in the U.S. and this is it.”
Pizza lovers can find the ATM in the Fenwick Place residence. It is available 24 hours a day for seven days a week, according to Teen Vogue.
To use the machine, first students select their choice of toppings. They vary from the basics, such as cheese, pepperoni, and even go into some more specialty ingredients. Afterwards, the machine takes the pizzas, made by the university’s dining staff, from a refrigerator to a connection oven set at 475 degrees. The pie is then served in a cardboard box and delivered through a slot in the machine.

However, students can only pay with either a student card or a credit card. The price varies from $9 to $10, depending on the toppings.
On another note, officials expect to sell about 300 pies per day, according to Cleveland.com. Thus, the machine alerts employees to restock when it’s running low on pizzas.
Moreover, the dining hall staff received 40 hours of training each from a French chef whom Xavier brought in, according to Insider.
It also reported that Kiah said, “This machine delivers a pizza which is really second to no other pizza I’ve had. It’s serving the exact same quality pizza that’s in the dining facility.”
The university partnered with Paline, a French company, to install the machine.
