Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center via: New York Times
The New York Fashion Week’s show tents will no longer be at Lincoln Center. The most prestigious of all fashion weeks will need to find a new venue as soon as possible.
“IMG Fashion Week shall vacate the premises and remove all tents and other Fashion Week equipment from the park,” reads a part of the settlement ordered by Supreme Court Justice Margaret Chan. It goes on to state “The City and LCPA [Lincoln Center Performing Arts] intend to further expand public access to the Park by not entering into agreements for commercial events [similar to] Fashion Week.”
The case stems from allegations that NYFW organizers used the park(Damrosch Park) to set tents and equipment over trees and flowers; restored in the past.
At the time of the settlement, NYFW and Lincoln Center were in the process of renewing their contract till 2020.
Along with the city of NY, the neighbors and supporters of the park are also up in arms against the NYFW organizers.
“Damrosch Park belongs to the City of New York not Lincoln Center,” said Geoffrey Croft of NYC Park Advocates. (via NYPost)
“Almost 5 years ago I woke up to the sound of power saws and watched helplessly as our beautiful neighborhood Park was destroyed by the monstrous Fashion Week,” said Cleo Dana, Chair of Friends of Damrosch Park, a plantiff in the suit. (via NYPost)
