For years political leaders and the American people have been debating on whether or not the United States should be having any type of interaction with the people of Saudi Arabia. It looks like a new interaction has many questioning the validity of the Untied States’ relationship with the nation. According to CNN, lawmakers are trying to stop an arms and equipment sale to Saudi Arabia. This has many politicians and citizens shocked and confused.
The Obama administration has been working on getting this deal to go through, but many are combating their decision. According to CNN, a group of over 60 people from the house of representatives is fighting to delay this sale. CNN is also reporting that the group is being led by California representative Ted Lieu.
As of right now, those protesting the bill are trying to prolong the process by first calling for the white house to withdraw their request for congressional approval. Officials are stating that this will give Congress time to fully debate on whether or not the United States should have any military support or involvement with Saudi Arabia.
While some people are in full support of the United States and its involvement in the conflict, some are against continuing to get tangled in the affairs of other nations. CNN reports that the United States has been somewhat supporting the Saudi-led coalition against Shiite Houthi. Giving them this support would allow them to continue their struggle. Others who oppose this bill credit the coalition for the rising death toll in Yemen. They believe that this should not go into effect and the United States needs to remove themselves from this situation as much as humanly possible.
United States support of other nations and involvement in foreign affairs continues to be a growing concern for the people of the country. As a decision is made, one can only wonder how the choice will impact the entire world.
