In previous week Saudi Arabia hosted the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) summit. Saudi Arabia hosted the OIC summit in Mecca, which is a sacred city for all Muslims around the world.  This organization was formed in the 1960s to prevail in unity in the Muslim world. However, the current OIC summit turned out to an anti-Iran conference. Important issues like that of Syria, Libya and Sudan were not discussed at this summit. Instead of this, the focus of this conference was the alienation of Iran. It seems that Saudi Arabia and UAE want to use OIC as a platform against Iran.

,The concluding document of OIC did not condemn Iran directly, but it condemned the recent attack on oil tankers of Saudi Arabia and UAE. The final declaration supported the Arab’s right to defend their land in case of any insurgency. This article covers the impacts of final OIC declaration. Many experts believe that this declaration is Saudi success. However, only the future will tell about the long-lasting impacts of this conference.

Many experts claim that this conference helped Saudi Arabia to be a leading force of Arab nations. In the last few years, Saudi Arabia faced a few international obstacles. Qatar blockade and Murder of prominent journalist Jamal Khashoggi put Saudi Arabia under pressure. However, Saudi Arabia successfully emerged victorious in all this scenario. KSA successfully propagated its hard stance against Iran.

It seems that Saudi Arabia, to some extent, managed its leadership status in the Arab world and the middle east. Saudi Arabia is emerging as a greater player in the middle east and Arab. Saudi aid to Sudan’s TMC and Egypt’s dictator is now an open secret. The strength of Saudi Arabia means that Iran has become weaker. Saudi Arabia and Israel are the only beneficiaries of a weak Iran. The similar trend was observed in the Arab summit held last week in Saudi Arabia.

In the Arab summit, very less space was given for discussion. Qatar’s foreign minister Mr. Al Thani clearly raised his reservation in the final statement of the Arab summit. Iraq also opposed while Syria opposed this in absentia because it was not invited. However, these reservations do little against Saudi Arabia. It seems that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and UAE are emerging as leaders of the Arab world. This is all because of that there is no strong opponent of these giants.

In the meantime, Egyptian President Sisi also gave a proposal for a united defense mechanism.

However, in the final declaration, Saudi could not unite the Muslim world against Iran. Iran’s name was not present in condemning the attacks on oil tankers. Saudi and Iranian manipulations are weakening the big platform of OIC. These oral condemnations will not serve Saudi Arabia in the long run.

Moreover,  the Arab’s hard stance against Iran, Turkey and the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt has raised serious concerns in democratic forces of the world. Rise of Egyptian dictatorship is already viewed as dubious in democratic circles of the world. The staunch behavior of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE can endanger the peace of the already volatile region. However, the verbal condemnation of terrorist attacks will not serve any purpose to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The hawkish stand of Saudi Arabia will just give a chance to foreign powers to fill the vacuum. The Arab world has rightly condemned Iran on its role in Syria and Yemen but inviting the foreign players will not be beneficial for Saudi Arabia either. It seems that Saudi Arabia wants the USA to escalate and manage tensions against Iran.

The only solution of the Arab world lies in handling the insurgencies in various parts. However, Saudi Arabia and allies seem to be part of the problem. Saudi Arab is supporting insurgencies in Yemen and Libya. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and UAE are supporting Sudan’s TMC which is conducting raids on pro-democracy protesters.

It seems that the royal family of Saudi Arabia just wants to prolong and strengthen its regime. Experts believe that in future Saudi Arabia can also join hands with Israel to counter a common enemy Iran.
