Overdose at Music Festival Puts Several in Hospital

A music festival in Ohio has taken a turn for the worst. CNN is reporting that 24 people are in the hospital after overdosing. This  took place at the EST (Everybody Stay Together) FEST Music  Festival in Butler, Ohio. This was the third year of the event. The Sheriff’s department is reporting that there are currently no arrests in this case. All victims went to the Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital to be treated and did not lose consciousness.

Officials believe that the cause of the sudden illness was synthetic THC. CNN also reports the people involved ate synthetic THC candies. This drug is often more potent than regular THC and the quality of it changes every time someone makes it.

While music festivals are times of fun and celebration, these incidents are very common. Overheating and overdose are two of the most common causes of death and injury during festival seasons. Drug and alcohol abuse is also very common. The people in charge of the festival are saying that all cars are searched at the start of the event.

Notable musicians and DJs regularly perform at the events. With lots of celebrities attending and posting about these events on social media, more young people are eager to go themselves. This year, Taylor Swift and many of her famous friends even went to one of the most popular festivals: Coachella.

Music festivals are becoming a part of summer culture and youth culture. While these events are fun for many young people, organizers and officials need to make sure these events do not become a constant safety issue. If they do not try to stop the problems before they start, the death and injury numbers will rise. In coming years, it will be interesting to see how these events continue to change and how organizers tackle issues like this one.
