Authorities stated that enraged coworkers rushed a police station to find him after accusing him of insulting the Prophet Mohammad.

On Sunday afternoon, when crowds gathered outside the Dasu hydroelectric plant in Kohistan district, officials transported the man to a safer location, according to police officer Naseer-ud-Din Khan.

According to Khan, hundreds of people attacked the main district police station again on Monday morning, presuming the culprit was inside.

Khan said that officials had transported him to another location by military plane due to his fear of violence. According to police, the accused refused to talk.

Blasphemy is a capital offense in Pakistan. A 23-year-old man was killed in eastern Pakistan in February, while a Sri Lankan factory manager was lynched in 2021.

Khan alleged that the mob stormed the police station on Monday as authorities were preparing charges. “The mob dispersed only after they were shown a copy of the case registered on blasphemy charges,” he stated.

According to human rights groups, judges postpone blasphemy proceedings out of fear of retaliation, keeping hundreds of people imprisoned.

In 2021, nine Chinese hydropower plant workers were killed in a bus suicide.
