Beatlemania will be coming to Chicago this summer. Sir Paul McCarney will be headlining the summer festival Lollapalooza. This will be McCartney’s first time at the festival, and he will be joined by other big names like Florence + the Machine, Metallica, and Sam Smith. The line up for the three day festival has about 130 artists to play on eight different stages. This will be the 11th year that the festival will be put on in Grant Park. The three-day passes sold out even before the single day tickets went on sale. The single day tickets went on sale Wednesday at 10 AM, and one day tickets costed $110 each and have already sold out. According to the Chicago Tribune there should be about 100,000 people attending on each day.
McCartney will be playing the first night of Lollapalooza and he could fill Grant Park all by himself since he has played at Wrigley Field back in 2011. Since the Beatle is used to playing venues, this outdoor festival will be a change of pace for him. Sir Paul will be joined by other big names on Friday like The Alabama Shakes, who have been gaining more and more attention and are ready for their breakout. The Weekend will also be playing on Friday, but at the same time as McCartney. This could cause the crowd to split in half; the younger generations who may not know who Paul McCartney is, and everyone who has been listening to the Beatles their entire lives will definitely want to see him.
The other two days are also filled with really exciting acts. This will be Metallica’s return to the headliner of Lollapalooza since 1996. Nineteen years is long enough for a return. On the other stage, Sam Smith will be performing his sad, but beautiful, songs. So, if metal music isn’t your thing Sam Smith is there to sing to you. If you want to dance the composers of “Shut Up and Dance,” Walk the Moon, will be there to make sure you get up and dance. The performances on Saturday should be energetic and so fun. With other acts like Charli XCX, who had a breakout this year with her song “Boom Clap,” from the soundtrack for “The Fault in Our Stars.”
On Sunday Florence + the Machine will be headlining and she is a vet when it comes to the festival. Not only a festival vet but they headlined back in 2012 as well, along with Florence, Of Monsters and Men will be there as well and they will have their second album released June 9. So the fans will flock to hear them perform their new music live. Along with Twenty One Pilots who will also have a new album released by May 19. Another act who will have new music to perform is Lord Huron who will have a new album out by April 7. So Sunday is the day if you want to hear new music from these amazing bands.
