Phillies win in 11 innings, Rays lose fifth straight

The Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-1 victory in the 11th inning. Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner delivered RBI singles to secure the win. Matt Strahm pitched two scoreless innings and ended the game with a double play. The Phillies have now won 12 consecutive road games, while the Rays have extended their losing streak to five games.

The winning run came in the 11th inning off Ryan Thompson, the eighth pitcher used by the Rays. Edmundo Sosa was the placed runner, and Garrett Stubbs was hit by a pitch with one out. Schwarber then hit a run-scoring single, followed by Turner’s RBI hit.

Strahm, who struck out three batters in two innings, walked Yandy Diaz in the 11th inning, putting runners on first and second. However, Franco bounced into a double play, ending the Rays’ chances of scoring.

In the eighth inning, the Rays had an opportunity to take the lead, but Jose Alvarado worked out of a first-and-third jam by getting Franco to line out to right field.

Pitching was dominant throughout the game. Cristopher Sanchez had a quality start for the Phillies, allowing only one run in six innings. Shawn Armstrong started for the Rays and pitched three shutout innings with five strikeouts. The Rays used multiple relievers, including Robert Stephenson, Jake Diekman, Kevin Kelly, Jason Adam, Pete Fairbanks, and Colin Poche.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Darick Hall hit his first home run of the season for the Phillies. The Rays tied the game at one in the fifth inning with Isaac Paredes’ 15th home run of the season.

In conclusion, the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3-1 victory in the 11th inning. The Phillies’ pitching was strong, and they extended their road winning streak to 12 games. The Rays struggled to score runs and extended their losing streak to five games.
