After days of disruption, police have intervened to clear the remaining protestors impeding a crucial bridge connecting Canada and the United States.

Trucker demonstrations in Canada over Covid vaccine certification have halted transport across the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ontario.

On Friday, a judge issued an order to disband the rally, but scores of protestors defied the order.

Police are already detaining people and towing cars after days of warnings.

On Saturday morning, plans were made to disband the demonstration, and several of the participants’ vehicles were ordered to leave by police.

However, when word of the police action spread, more protesters showed up, swelling the crowd.

Only a few dozen people remained on Sunday morning, so police launched their operation, detaining anyone who refused to leave.

Windsor Police’s deputy chief of operations, Jason Bellaire, told the BBC on Saturday that the problem was now people, not vehicles, after some of the remaining vehicles were taken away.

“We have to make it clear that they are not welcome to stay here, that they are not welcome to interrupt our bridge traffic, that they are not welcome to damage our neighborhood,” he stated.

Others throughout the world, including France, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, have followed suit in an attempt to congest metropolitan roadways and draw attention to the issue.
