Pope Francis says permitting burning of Koran is rejected

Pope Francis expressed his anger and disgust at the burning of the Koran, stating that he condemns and rejects it as a form of freedom of speech. He emphasized that any book considered holy should be respected to honor the beliefs of those who follow it. The pope firmly believes that freedom of speech should never be used to demean others, and he strongly condemns and rejects such actions.

Last week, a man in Stockholm tore up and burned a Koran, which received widespread condemnation from various countries, including Turkey. Sweden is seeking support from Turkey to gain entry into the NATO military alliance. While Swedish police have denied several requests for anti-Koran demonstrations, the courts have overturned these decisions, citing the protection of freedom of speech.

In response to the incident, an Islamic group consisting of 57 states called for collective measures to prevent acts of desecration against the Koran. They believe that international law should be utilized to combat religious hatred and stop such acts of disrespect.

Overall, Pope Francis’s strong condemnation of the burning of the Koran aligns with the sentiments expressed by various countries and the Islamic group. The need to respect holy books and prevent acts of desecration is emphasized, while also acknowledging the importance of freedom of speech.
