Sony has recently announced that there will be an all male cast for another reboot of “Ghostbusters.” Now wait a second, isn’t there already a reboot for “Ghostbusters” in the works? Why yes, yes there is and it has an all female cast, including Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. Now there will be two reboots for the comedy classic “Ghostbusters.”
The question here is why? Normally, audiences are annoyed with the constant stream of reboots flooding the movie theaters. This is a special case because movie goers will be receiving two reboots for the same movie. For the all male cast, rumors of Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt are said to have been casted, so both films have a strong comedic cast involved.
Sony has also said that the two “Ghostbusters” movies will be used to expand the cinematic universe. Sony is pretty much trying to make their own version of “The Avengers.”
Separating genders makes it seem as though the two cannot work together, which is not true because Melissa McCarthy and Chris Pratt together on the big screen can only mean comedic genius. Segregating the genders is the real issue at hand. Sony was receiving some criticism about the all female cast, but at least they were taking the stand. Now it seems like they are trying to appease everyone who complains about something.
Reboots are never something people overly excited themselves about, but they happen. Batman has been rebooted how many times now? Spiderman will probably get a reboot soon since he is now finally in the Marvel cinematic universe. Maybe Sony knows what they are doing with the two movies and trying to expand the cinematic world of “Ghostbusters”?
The good news is that both have really funny people on both casts that could carry their own movies. So, there is hope that both films will do very well and will be really funny. Either way the world is going to be exposed to Slimer again and who isn’t excited about that?
