Reds, D-backs finally settle pitching plans for Sunday finale

The Cincinnati Reds are aiming for a sweep in their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds’ starting pitcher, Luke Weaver, has had some struggles in his recent outings. In his last start, Weaver was hit by a line drive on his left elbow, forcing him to leave the game. Despite this setback, Weaver showed promise with an increased fastball velocity. The Reds ultimately lost the game but have since won four consecutive games.

Weaver has declared himself fit to pitch in the upcoming game against the Diamondbacks. In his career, Weaver has faced the Diamondbacks three times, resulting in one loss and a 4.85 ERA in 13 innings pitched. On the other hand, the Diamondbacks will not have a traditional starting pitcher. Instead, they will rely on reliever Jose Ruiz to begin what seems to be a bullpen game. Ruiz has made 37 relief appearances this season and has pitched two innings on three occasions.

Ruiz has faced the Reds five times in relief throughout his career, including an appearance in the previous game where he walked one batter and struck out two. The Diamondbacks have been struggling since the All-Star break, losing six out of eight games and 11 out of their last 15. Manager Torey Lovullo believes the team needs to focus on their plan and process to improve their performance.

Lovullo also praised right-hander Brandon Pfaadt, who made his seventh major league start in the previous game against the Reds. Pfaadt managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the first inning and pitched five solid innings, striking out six batters. However, he gave up three consecutive solo home runs in the sixth inning, leading to a 4-2 loss for the Diamondbacks. Despite the loss, Lovullo highlighted Pfaadt’s positive contributions and believes he showed potential.

In conclusion, the Cincinnati Reds are looking to continue their winning streak against the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks. Luke Weaver will take the mound for the Reds, while the Diamondbacks will rely on reliever Jose Ruiz for their bullpen game. Both teams have had their share of challenges but are determined to come out on top.
