Your room is a sacred space. It’s where you go to be alone, or to take shelter from your crazy roommates. Your personal space (whether it’s a college dorm, off campus townhouse loft or tiny apartment bedroom) should represent you, and should be a place you never get tired of. So if you’re bored of your room and feel the need to spice it up a little, follow these simple steps. Before you know it, your friends will be begging you to actually get out of bed and leave your newly decorated sanctuary.
1) Make a picture corner
Nothing represents your personality better than photos of you and your friends. Pictures are wonderful decorations. Make a collage around the doorframe, or tape them up from floor to ceiling in a corner of your room. Looking at these pictures will remind you how lucky you are to have friends and family that you’ve shared great memories with.
2) Hang twinkle lights
Lighting can make or break a room, so if yours is lacking the homey feel you’ve been craving, it may be because the lighting is too harsh. Soften it up, and give your room a calm ambiance with some twinkle lights. Buy any generic Christmas lights from Lowes or Target, or go a little more high-end with twinkle lights specifically designed for room décor. Either way, these tiny lights will give your room a whole new feel.
3) Hang a tapestry
Tapestries are extremely popular right now. Channel your inner hippie, and dangle one of these bohemian wall hangings over your bed. They’ll transform your bland white walls into an amazingly Zen escape from the crazy outside world.
4) Frame some photos
Picture frames are cheap and cute. They can be used to decorate a desk (or any flat surface for that matter), or they can be used as wall décor. Show your favorite photos by entrapping them in cute frames that match your room. Check out Marshalls or TJ Maxx; you can never decorate with too many photos.
5) Buy some throw pillows
Throw pillows can surprisingly transform an ordinary bedspread into a perfectly accessorized and amazingly comfortable looking bed. Throw pillows can add a lot of spark and personality to a room. Check out Society 6, there’s a throw pillow out there for everyone.
