Russia says it downed Ukrainian drones trying to attack Moscow

Russia’s Defence Ministry has announced that it successfully intercepted three Ukrainian drones that attempted to attack Moscow for the second time in a week. The attack caused minor damage to a high-rise building that reportedly houses government offices. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and only the facades of two office buildings in the Moskva-Citi business district were affected, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The Moskva-Citi business district, located a few miles from the Kremlin, is known for its modern high-rise towers. One of the damaged buildings is home to three Russian government ministries and residential apartments, as reported by Russian media.

The fact that hostile drones have reached the heart of Moscow in recent months, even without causing significant damage, is concerning for the authorities. They have been assuring the public that Russia has complete control over its “special military operation” against Ukraine.

In May, two drones reached the Kremlin in the most notable incident of this kind. Last Monday, Russia successfully thwarted an attack on Moscow with two drones, one of which was brought down near the defense ministry headquarters.

Although Kyiv typically does not claim responsibility for specific incidents on Russian territory, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the war was gradually returning to Russia’s symbolic centers, emphasizing that this was a natural and fair process.

During Sunday’s strike, a young woman named Liya, who was renting an apartment with friends in Moscow, described the moment of the explosion and the ensuing smoke and chaos. RushHourDaily witnessed glass panels blown out in one high-rise building, with debris and office documents scattered on the pavement. The area was cordoned off by police and emergency services.

As a result of the incident, flights to and from Moscow’s Vnukovo airport were briefly suspended.

The Defence Ministry reported that two drones crashed in the Moskva-Citi district after being brought down using radio-electronic equipment. Additionally, air defenses shot down another drone over the Odintsovo area in the Moscow region.

The ministry stated that the attempted terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime using unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in Moscow was foiled. It also announced the successful prevention of an overnight attack on Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. In the Crimea episode, 25 Ukrainian drones were either shot down or forced to crash, causing no harm or damage.

In conclusion, Russia has successfully intercepted three Ukrainian drones that targeted Moscow, causing minor damage to a high-rise building. The incident highlights the authorities’ discomfort as drones have reached the heart of the Russian capital in recent months. However, they maintain that Russia is in full control of its military operation against Ukraine. President Zelenskiy suggests that the war is gradually returning to Russia’s symbolic centers. The attack did not result in any casualties, but it did temporarily suspend flights at Vnukovo airport. The Defence Ministry reported the successful interception of the drones and the prevention of an attack on Crimea.
