This morning at a press conference in New York city, Samsung has unveiled more details about their long-awaited Galaxy Note 7. These details include availability, more details on specifications and features, as well as pricing for the U.S market.
The Galaxy Note is essentially a downsized tablet. While it does have many features akin to its smaller siblings, the Galaxy smartphones, it boasts more storage and a slew of features that aren’t present on the “S” series phones. Arguably the most important feature is that the Note comes with its own stylus out of the box.
The Galaxy Note 7, in particular, will be 5.7 inches, water resistant, and will have an iris scanner in addition to the fingerprint scanner, have the famous edge screen on both sides of the phone, as well as a 12-megapixel camera. For those more technically inclined, the phone’s workload will be taken care of by a Snapdragon 820 processor which will receive power from a 3,500mAh battery.
Like the other phones in the S7 family, the Note 7 will have a MicroSD card slot, something that power users have been yearning for ever since the takeover of the unibody design. Other new features include the introduction of a USB-C charger port and a Gorilla Glass 5 screen to prevent your display from looking like a kaleidoscope after one tumble.
Multiple carriers in the U.S have already confirmed pricing for the Galaxy Note 7, and sadly none of them are cost effective. AT&T will allow you to have the phone for $880 USD, T-Mobile isn’t far behind with a price of $849 USD, and U.S Cellular is the cheapest at $834 USD. Verizon will be offering the phone as well but has yet to confirm pricing. These prices, of course, can vary over time and do not take into account any promotions the carriers might offer upon release or if the phone is purchased in addition to signing a contract.
Pricing has not yet been confirmed for the U.K market, however, according to CNET, Vodafone, O2, GiffGaff, Three and EE will be carrying the phone. Additionally, pricing has not been confirmed for the Australian market either, nor has its availability.
The phone will be available for purchase in the U.S starting tomorrow (August 3) and available for pickup on August 19. If you’re in the U.K, pre-orders will begin on August 16 and be available for pick up on September 2. To learn more about the phone, view the hands-on video below from The Verge’s official Youtube.
