Saudi Arabia will bid to host 2034 World Cup

Saudi Arabia has announced its bid to host the 2034 World Cup shortly after FIFA invited bids from countries in the Asia and Oceania regions. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) stated that their bid aims to deliver a world-class tournament and draw inspiration from the country’s ongoing social and economic transformation, as well as its deep-rooted passion for football. They emphasized their experience in hosting world-class football events and their plans to welcome fans to the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

FIFA had previously named Morocco, Spain, and Portugal as hosts for the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay hosting the opening matches to commemorate the tournament’s centenary. Following FIFA’s announcement that the 2034 World Cup will be held in the Asia or Oceania region, the president of the Asian Football Confederation, Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, expressed his support for the decision, believing it provides a more equitable opportunity for all confederations to bid for and host the prestigious tournament.

The 2026 World Cup, featuring 48 teams, will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, several top footballers, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Karim Benzema, have recently signed lucrative deals with Saudi Pro League clubs.
