Senator Claire McCaskill Wants to Boycott “Game of Thrones”

Senator Claire McCaskill was not happy about the most recent episode of “Game of Thrones.” The Senator tweeted that “Ok, I’m Game of Thrones. Water Garden, stupid. Gratuitous rape scene disgusting and unacceptable. It was a rocky ride that just ended.”

McCaskill has been a prominent voice agains sexual assault and sexual violence. This most recent episode of “Game of Thrones” had both.

However, “Game of Thrones” is also known for the graphic violence and sexual nature. Last season Cersei Lannister was raped next to her son’s dead body.

Also, audiences saw a man’s head explode last season. Sansa’s new husband also hunted down a girl in the forest for sport, and let his dogs tear her to shreds.

So, people kind of know what to expect when watching the HBO hit. It has been getting further away from the source material, George R.R. Martin’s novel series “The Songs of Ice and Fire.”

Martin has been defending the creative direction the HBO show has been taking. Martin wrote on his blog:

“How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have? Three, in the novel. One, in the movie. None, in real life: she was a fictional character, she never existed. The show is the show, the books are the books; two different tellings of the same story. There have been differences between the novels and the television show since the first episode of season one. And for just as long, I have been talking about the butterfly effect. Small changes lead to larger changes lead to huge changes.”

Will McCaskill come back next week to see the repercussions of Ramsey’s actions? From looking at her tweet maybe not, but a lot of other people are going to tune in and see of Ramsey gets his. It’s weird to say but, does anyone else miss Joffrey?
