After over a year of suspense the new season of the world famous podcast Serial has now aired.
The first episode of the second season of Serial was released on Thursday morning, December 10, on iTunes, Pandora and the Serial website.
The second season will center the investigation of Sergent Bowe Bergdahl. The Taliban held Bergdahl prisoner from 2009 until 2014, before a U.S. special operations team rescued him.

Shortly after arriving home, Bergdahl’s community and fellow unit soldiers called him a traitor and deserter. The unit soldiers claimed that Bergdahl deliberately walked off the eastern-Afghan based outpost and into hostile territory. Bergdahl was charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. The charges could result in Bergdahl spending the rest of his life in prison.
“Unlike our story in Season One, this one extends far out into the world. It reaches into swaths of the military, the peace talks to end the war, attempts to rescue other hostages, our Guantanamo policy. What Bergdahl did made me wrestle with things I’d thought I more or less understood, but really didn’t: what it means to be loyal, to be resilient, to be used, to be punished,” producer and host Sarah Koenig said in an introduction to the second season of “Serial.”
Originally Serial began as a spin-off of the podcast This American Life. Serial ended up being the most popular podcast worldwide and has been described as having moved podcasting into a new era.
The first season of Serial aired in October 2014. That season concerned the convicted murderer Adnan Syed and the complications with the case and conviction. In November a Baltimore Judge reopened Adnan Syed’s case, allowing his lawyers to present new evidence that might free him.
