As preparation begins for a conviction for the death penalty, Robert Lewis Dear, 57 sits in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center in Colorado Springs. He has been charged with killing three innocent people that were at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His Ex-wife seems to be very informative in who this person is and what his thought process is in regards to religion.
When Dear targeted the Planned Parenthood Clinic the attack lasted five long hours of terror. Not only were two civilians killed, but also a police officer who was trying to save others. Dear also injured nine others that were held under those terrifying circumstances. The most terrifying part is that authorities have not revealed a clear reason on why the shooting even happened at this time. All they are saying is that when the arrest was made Dear stated that “no more baby parts.”
Authorities are speaking to people from his past to get a better idea of who this terror of a human being is. Barbara Mescher Michaux, Dear’s ex-wife who was married to him from 1985 to 1993, said being married to him was her own hell on Earth. She said that through the marriage she saw things that no one professing to be religious would ever do. That once while being married Dear jammed the locks of the Planned Parenthood Clinic near their hometown in Charleston and that “He was very proud of himself that he’d gone over and jammed up their locks with glue so that they couldn’t get in”.
In January of 1993 when Barbara finalized the divorce in a sworn statement it states that “He claims to be a Christian and is extremely evangelistic, but does not follow the Bible in his actions,” and Mrs. Michaux continues that “He says that as long as he believes he will be saved, he can do whatever he pleases. He is obsessed with the world coming to an end.”
Also, she describes Mr. Dear as a gambler, also a serial philanderer. A person that beats women, and that she had been kicked and had her head bashed against the floor. He also made two children out of wedlock while they were both still together, while always finding a reason for his actions and transgressions. It became exhausting to say the least. She also stated to the police that “For him to plan this and go there, he meant to go there,” without hesitations she stated. “There is no doubt in my mind.”
Mescher Michaux states that back in the day that Dear at some point “used to be a very smart man”. Sadly, his manic and unpredictable views if not agreed with would lead to him becoming abusive. Not just physically, but on the emotional side as well. That it would just come out of left field and you never knew when or what it would be about. She states that “He would spin on a dime from being OK to being furious,” and that “He was abusive — very abusive emotionally, abusive physically. You never knew. It was always nerve-racking because you never knew what he was going to be like.”
As authorities continue to dig to find out more about Dear others knew about his obsession with Planned Parenthood. Not only other others from the area that he lived in but websites he frequented as well. He was not afraid to boast his feeling on the internet highway. Even going back to October 7th, 2005 by stating on one site that “Turn to JESUS or burn in hell,” and also added to the site. “WAKE UP SINNERS U CANT SAVE YOURSELF U WILL DIE AN WORMS SHALL EAT YOUR FLESH, NOW YOUR SOUL IS GOING SOMEWHERE.”
At this time it is only the beginning and the interview process is just in the fresh stages by speaking with relatives and acquaintance. They are still still searching the internet as we speak for more of his writings that he has placed. Going back to public information as much as possible due to the fact that his early years are limited on who he was as a younger man.
