This winter may be brutal, but even if there are no blizzards, you probably want to stay inside and cozy up in front of your Netflix account. But with all of the TV series that are on Netflix, how do you possibly choose what to watch? Well here are some tips to help you decide where to press play.
Newsday.com’s “Best TV shows to binge-watch,” notes that “Shows should ideally have an ongoing narrative; in other words, when one episode ends, like a chapter in a compelling book, you should be left with a burning desire to know what happens in the next episode.” So, think about what shows everybody is talking about. Which shows have been getting rave reviews and season premiere buzz? To help you decide, shows like Scandal, The Wire, and House of Cards are a few choices to consider.
Not only do you have to come back for more, but “You should care about the characters.” Do you hate or love the main character? The answer truly does not matter; all you have to do is care what happens to them. You should want to find out how their story ends whether or not you like them. Shows like Blacklist, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy have complex characters whose stories you will want to figure out.
Besides the complex characters and story plots, “Shows should have some redeeming quality – good actors, or production values, or writing, or something that qualifies this as redeeming.” Lost, Game of Thrones, and The Originals are shows that have a lot to offer because of their wit, action, suspense, and escape from reality. They also make us reevaluate the relationships in our lives and value or change them.
Think outside of your particular TV because if you follow these suggestions you may be surprised. You think you know what you like, but these options can make you think twice by going to places you never thought you would go. Perhaps you may even meet characters you did not think you would ever want to get to know.
