Six injured after blaze at Pemex offshore platform

A fire broke out on Friday morning at an offshore platform operated by Mexican state oil company Pemex in the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in six injuries, according to a statement from the company. Despite this incident, a company source confirmed that oil production was not affected. The fire originated at the Nohoch-A joining platform and spread to a compression platform of the Cantarell complex in the Bay of Campeche, which is known for being one of Mexico’s largest oil fields. However, production at Cantarell has significantly declined to 170,000 barrels per day (bpd) based on Pemex data.

Earlier in the day, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador mentioned in a press conference that there were three or four missing individuals after the fire. However, his spokesman Jesus Ramirez later clarified to RushHourDaily that this was no longer the case. Pemex stated that out of the 328 people working on the platform, 321 had been successfully evacuated. Ramirez explained that some individuals remained on the platform to combat the fire. The company is currently conducting checks to confirm the exact number of people present during the incident.
