NASA and Space X is closer to a moment that they have been preparing since 2010. The Falcon 9 of SpaceX and Crew Dragon spacecraft are going to launch with the NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley. SpaceX has passed the flight readiness review. This means that everything is ready for launch now.

NASA’s commercial crew manager Kathy Leuders stated in a press conference that everything had worked fine with the pre-launch tests for the Falcon 9’s engine.
The only big hurdle that NASA and SpaceX are facing is the weather. It is only looking 40% favorable for launch on May 27 at 4:33 EDT.

Both SpaceX and NASA are going to pay close attention to the weather. Moreover, this is quite a sensitive mission with actual astronauts. Thus, they might delay the launch due to the weather, and the company has a backup opportunity on May 30 and another opportunity on May 31.

Hans Koenigsmann, the VP of Mission Assurance at SpaceX, stated that there were no showstoppers during the test-fire on Saturday. This launch will be the first-ever human spaceflight for SpaceX. Moreover, it will be the first time that astronauts will launch from US soil since the end of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011.

Koeingsmann reviewed the launch day schedule, which includes Hurley and Behnken getting ready around 4 hours before. They will get into the capsule around 2.5 hours before the launch. The rest of the situation will be just like other Falcon 9 launches. Moreover, the escape system will be armed 45 minutes before the launch. The launch will similarly take place to other Falcon 9 flights.

After the launch, Doug and Hurley will spend around 19 hours on orbit. There will also be a manual test around 30 minutes before the docking. Then it will open the hatch 2 hours later.

This launch is the result of several years of work, and it will be the first human flight for the commercial crew program. If everything goes according to the plan, SpaceX will fly astronauts during regular missions to and from the Space Station by the end of this year.
